Sectionals and Long Rehearsal with Driveway Choir Equipment
Much of the Chorale has been successfully introduced to this equipment. Special thanks to those who have helped – Sue Berlenbach, Janice Dutton, Debbie Carley and especially Brian Kugel and Liz MacLellan.
We are ready to schedule sectionals using the Driveway Choir technique, using the 24 sets of microphones and headsets. Jenny will be conducting these sessions, with her wife Lisa on the piano. We will have a Zoom link to the sound board so out-of-towners can join us real time.
All of these sessions will be in the Concord Community Music School parking lot from 10am – 12pm. Note the later starting time.
Here is the schedule:
- Saturday, April 10th – Alto Sectional 10 – 12
- Saturday, April 24th – Tenor/Bass Sectional 10 – 12
- Saturday, May 1st – Soprano Sectional 10 – 12
Long Rehearsal
This semester’s long rehearsal will be Saturday May 8th from 10am – 12:30pm, with Jenny and Molly in the CCMS parking lot. We will describe this in more detail so people feel comfortable with the social distancing parameters. There will also be Zoom link for singers who cannot make it physically.
Discussion about Carl Orff, composer of Carmina Burana, and the Nazi Party
As was alluded to in the rehearsal of Wednesday, March 17th, there is an association between Carl Orff and the Nazi Party of Germany. After almost banning the music when it premiered in 1935, the Nazis came to love Carmina Burana and because of this the music is often associated with them. The Board and Jenny had a thorough discussion prior to choosing this piece, and decided that while he was an imperfect human, he was not an overt anti-Semite, and was never a member of the Nazi party. Jenny is planning an educational introduction to our concert to address this history. Please see the beginning of the recording of this past Wednesday’s (24th) rehearsal for a further discussion of this topic.
